| Sermon Summary 8/20/17 Title: You Are The Branches Scripture: John 15:5-8 Jesus is the true vine and the believers are the branches. The Lord is abiding in us and if we are truly abiding in him we will bear fruit. Fruit is a natural result of abiding in the Lord. It is an adult choice to abide in the Lord. Our covenants with God come from the heart. It is a spiritual union with the Lord that we participate in when we are baptized. We choice to unite ourselves with Christ in his death and become marked with the Holy Spirit. We take on the identity of Christ being clothed with him. We all him to circumcise our hearts of all our sins and we become with him. Our true abiding is abiding in the Lord’s word. His love becomes our love. His will becomes our will. He becomes our treasure and our lives bears witness to his presence. We are tested and our responses reveal the truth of our abidance. Finally our abiding will bear fruit and bring glory to God. The fruit of our lives will bear witness to the glorious father who is the true vine and source of life. Regardless of past choices, scars, and experiences, the Lord will graft us in and abide in us, he as vine and us as the branches. Together we will not fail.
