| Sermon Summary: 3/5/17 Sermon Title: The Road – Give Thanks Luke 24:30-32 Jesus is invited to stay with the disciples in their home in Emmaus. They show him hospitality by making him feel comfortable and inviting him to share in a meal with them at their table. Once at the table, Jesus takes over the role of host. He takes the bread, giving thanks, breaks it and begins to give it to them. The bread would have reminded them of the Celebration of the Feast of Unleavened Bread that celebrated the liberation from slavery they experienced in the first Passover (Exodus 12) and it would have reminded them of what they had heard happened in the upper room with Jesus and the twelve (Luke 22:7-20). Finally, their eyes were opened and they recognized him. Does the presence of the Lord cause your heart to burn? If not is it because you are kept from recognizing his presence when you break bread daily in your homes or when you partake in the Lord’s Supper each first day of the week? Give thanks to God daily.
