| Dec. 18, 2016 Prelude to Jesus the Messiah: This is My Son Matthew 3:13-17 Jesus the Christ has been born. The Magi have found the Lord and worshiped him. John has proclaimed that kingdom of heaven has come near. Now a voice from heaven announces, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” This is the first time in Matthew’s gospel that Jesus is identified as the Son of God. This the question of all questions, “Is Jesus the son of God?” And, if Jesus, is the Son of God, is he Lord of your life? This proclamation of the coming of the Christ happens after Jesus is baptized and the Holy Spirit descends on him life a dove. Praise God for the coming of the Holy Spirit, which is the gift that we receive upon our baptism. When Jesus was born they named him Immanuel – God with us, and the Holy Spirit is our deposit guaranteeing that God is still with us. Jesus is the Son of God! Jesus is Lord!
