| Luke 15:8-10 - often treated as continuation of verses 3-7. This lesson contains a great explantion of more of the parables, where Jesus actually uses PARABLES in an attempt to EXPLAIN GOD. God can't be explained as Jesus knows Him, and Jesus knows that -- so he uses our own words to help us. Another point: How we speak about God determines how we feel about Him. Norm was once asked, "Do you want to hear a good joke about God?" and he answered, "No." - We don't want to hear people tell jokes about God, because God deserves a place of reverence that we DO NO JOKE ABOUT. Norm also brings out some -surprises- you have might not have thought about before -- pay particular attention following the 10 minute point in the story, where God deals with His relationship to everyone, including the outcasts - with no relation to gender. Pharisees used to pray 3x a day thanking God that they had not been born a woman -- but Jesus raises the status of women by talking to them. Just an example of things in this lesson. It is always hardest for me to describe the far reaching sermons that our preachers write. The description here barely scratches the surface of the lessons Norm and other offer, as their depth of knowledge is exceptional - so please, listen to the lessons. "In this lesson, Norm teaches many things about how we think about, and act, towards God. He gives the purpose as to what we are to have in our lives -- and tells who the first person Jesus ever revealed Himself as the Messiah was... a prostitute. Initially, the lesson is drawn from Luke 15, but contains SO MUCH MORE GOOD TEACHING. If you don't listen to any other lesson here, please hear this one. |
