This was recorded on a special day, known as Resurrection Sunday - Jesus died, was buried, and rose again. It's because of his resurrection that Christianity came into being. Were it not for that, Christianity would not exist. It is on that very event the church was founded - as if it were not for the resurrection we would have no reason to believe in what Jesus promised. Something just as important as the resurrection itself, is the day that Jesus returned. When Jesus rose from the dead, he spent 40 days making selective appearances to various persons. Once, even to 500 at once. One day, Jesus gathered his disciples and went out of the city of Jerusalem and walked down the road he had traveled at his crucifixion. At a particular point, he stops and talks to his disciples. They want to know if this is the time he'll gather up everyone... but he tells them they don't understand -- that it will be in God's time. At that time, while he was blessing them, a cloud gathers around him and he rises into the sky and disappears... They are then met by a couple of angels, who ask why they are looking into the sky? They explain that this same Jesus is COMING BACK, and in the same manner that he left. The disciples were reminded that they had been given a MISSION, and that they needed to get busy on it. You see, the disciples of that day actually believed that Jesus would return in their lifetime - and even now, 2,000 years later, He has not - but we still believe - and He still will because just as He promised and showed those disciples, because we have their first-hand testimony of what happened and what He said. Note: there are just a few of my own observations about this lesson. If you have something to add to this, or that you think I should add, please just send it along by using the CONTACT US link at the top of the screen and I will include it, with thanks. |
