| Source: Luke 10:38-42 (below) In this lesson, Mary and Martha are making preparations for their visitors. That is, MARTHA is working hard, whereas Mary is sitting at the feet of Jesus listening to Him speak. Martha becomes annoyed at this, and even goes so far to ask Jesus to tell MARY to get busy and help with the work! Jesus explains to Martha that Mary has chosen the most important thing to do... learn - when the opportunity presented. Martha failed to realize just what she had: GOD HIMSELF IN HER PRESENCE (since Jesus is God in human form) or I am sure she would have quickly discarded her preparation work and joined Mary at Jesus' feet. The core lesson in this sermon is "Seeking Jesus" - becoming a seeker. From the study guide included, it says to seek Jesus IN PERSON - that is, the person of Jesus. Seek him in your private moments, while reading scripture, in worship, and in our private worship. Seek Him through His teachings. Jesus had a heart of compasson, but was also intolerant of spiritual abuse such as in MT 18 when He spoke of "anyone who causes a child to stumble." We need to free ourselves from our distractions in seeking Jesus, embrace His righteousness, and press on and not give up. =========================== |
