| Note - Before the lesson begins, Norm takes a few minutes here to address the tragedy in Charleston SC when 9 people were senselessly killed by a young man after he had spent an hour with them at a Bible study... the lesson was written before this happened, and in my (Mark) opinion could not be more appropriate here... ARE YOU LISTENING? Luke 8:16-21 is the basis of this excellent lesson about why it is important to pay attention to God and others. We pay attention to God because God's truth matures us. In our maturity, we show the fruits of the Spirit and that we have an unwavering faith in God and an unsatisfied HUNGER for God. We further seek God because the truth of God is revealing. Although it does reveal our sins, it also reveals our redemptive work as well. Further, we need to pay careful attention to each other so that we can be sensitive to (and respond to) each others needs. We do not want to go into what could be called answering machine mode where we hear a few words a brother or sister says then automatically shoot back one of our so-called canned answers. It has got to be personal, and we have got to LISTEN to each other. We become FAMILY. Family listens - Family Cares - FAMILY TAKES ACTION when we see someone in need and we do what God has taught us we must do. I really liked this lesson, have heard it twice now. And I'll probably play it again now and then as a reminder - because its that important. I think you will agree. |
