Minute Message 8/27/11 - No Second Chance

Last week was certainly a difficult week for many. Three teenagers’ lives were taken in auto accidents. We mourn their deaths and extend condolences to the families. It is difficult, for sure, for us to be able to make sense of all of this. We ask why but noanswer is adequate. Even the words “I do not know,” though truthful, do not answer the question. We get angry with God and wonder where was He when this all took place.

I make no effort to defend God and I am unable to answer the question. But I do believe there are some practical observations we can make and I hope they are helpful. First, we learnthat life is fragile. It just seems we should already know this yet people appear to believe they are immortal by their behavior. Second, we need to enjoy living. We do not want to waste whattime we have being miserable or always in conflict. Every day gives us an opportunity to experience life. Don’t waste it. Third, tell people you love how much they mean to you. We tend to go through life assuming friends and family will always be with us or they already know how you feel about them. Those are bad assumptions. Finally, give your life to God. There are no second chances in eternity.
