"Frankincense and Myrrh" by Joe Maxwell In Matthew 2:11 we see that the wise men gave the infant savior three precious gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The latter two are gums from trees which are located in Northern Africa and along the Arabian Sea. We are not told how many wise men there were, and we might suppose that gold was the most precious. Not so! For thousands of years there has been a large demand for these two gums for religious and medicinal reasons. The Bible refers to the two gums often, and in today’s churches, especially Orthodox, use incense from them. The gums come from the sap of the tree when the bark is “wounded.” A man cuts the bark and the sap flows out and hardens. Essential oils are made from the two gums, and some videos will say that they help in healing what ails you. This was a fun study. Sources: Bible Encyclopedia and videos. I love you, Joe |
