A note about Pentecost (today 5-23-21, 50 days past Passover) by pastor Bryan Johnston: The Gift at Pentecost The Spirit came to a community of covenant believers who were living in unity. They were together in one accord. They were in one place with no separation nor distance between them. They were positive and building one another up in comfort and love. They were not divisive against any other believer. The one spirit filled each one and each one expressed their faith and shared the gospel in their own distinct and different way. Their unity and joy despite their differences drew others to discover the source of this distinction. The Spirit dwells in a unified community of believers. The Spirit is expressed in different ways. The Spirit draws others to the Lord and his body. The Spirit gets us. The Spirit fills us. The Spirit moves us. The Spirit changes us. The Spirit is God with Us. We are the temple of God, the church on the move, loving others, sharing good news, and bearing fruit for the kingdom of God. What is in the way of the Spirit in your life? What negative, judgmental, and divisive attitudes are in your heart? Does your heart burn when you hear the good news of Christ? Are you cut to the heart when you realize you need forgiveness, salvation, and the presence of the Holy Spirit? The Spirit has come. Repent. Be saved. Receive the Spirit. Live in unity with the body drawing all people to the Lord. Bryan Johnston bryan@churchofchristnb.com |
