Respecting Authority It saddens us to learn another police officer has been killed. Trooper Steven Vincent at the young age of 43 with a wife and son was shot during a traffic stop. This didn’t need to happen. He was simply doing his job. This is a reminder that those whose job it is to serve and protect are under constant threat of violence. I know there are some angry people. Some because they have lost their job, some because they have been unable to receive a benefit they feel they have coming to them and others because they find themselves without a home because they were unable to keep up their payments and the bank foreclosed on them. Even though we feel we have a legitimate complaint, being angry and taking it out on innocent people is wrong. In fact taking our anger out on anyone is wrong. The apostle Paul wrote that as Christians we are to be subject to the governing authorities. He wrote this at a time when Rome was the world power. They were not favorable to the disciples of Jesus Christ. But Paul still said we are to submit to those in powers and obey them. Romans 13. We need to pray for them, respect them, and encourage them. One can only imagine what our communities would be like without them. Come worship with us Sunday.
