One's Legacy - Norman Russell

One's Legacy
The game is over and the outcome was not what anyone was expecting. Leading up to the championship game, there was considerable talk about Denver's quarterback. Peyton Manning is a great player, and he is also a great person. Everyone was talking about him getting his second Super Bowl ring to secure his legacy. It was not to be. Now there is much talk about how this loss will affect his legacy.

People tend to remember the negative and forget all the positive. Mannings ability to play football and the fact he has consistently been a winner should be enough to seal a legacy of being one of the sports best players. But this is not about football, it is about each of us. Many of us have done something stupid in our life that we are ashamed of.

Too often we allow people to define us by that one act. But that one unwise decision should never be that which determines who and what we are any more than one loss should define Manning's legacy.

We remember those things that embarrass us and wish we could forget it. That will not happen. We do, however, need to move on. Seek God's forgiveness, rest in that forgiveness and show kindness to those who do stupid things.

Come worship with us on Sunday.

Norm Russell
