I saw a sign in front of a house that said "Home for Sale." That may have been a simple misstatement, as you cannot sell a home. You can sell a house but not the home. The difference between the two is striking. A house has four walls, a roof, foundation and is divided into various rooms. You can date the time it was built and you can even determine the cost of construction. You can add on to it and you can make various changes in the structure. A home however is made up of non tangibles. A home is a place where you find unconditional love, where you find safety from all that is wrong in the world and you are accepted for who you are. It is here that memories are made and laughter is heard. It is at home where broken hearts are mended and tears are dried. You cannot date the moment it was built because it is always under construction. Let me also say, you can destroy a house, but a home can survive even the most devastating of situations. |
