Our prayers and our hearts go out to those who are suffering from the tragic incident that took place in Aurora, Colorado. Innocent lives were lost because of one person's act of violence. For them, time stood still and their lives will never be the same.
It is unfortunate that once again politicians are seizing the moment crying out for more gun control. Sometimes one must wonder how it is that we can deflect blame from one person's action to some inanimate thing. That is about the same as blaming an automobile for the death of someone on our highway rather than the drunk driver who is in the drivers seat.
The problem is not guns or automobiles or any other object that cannot think or act on its own. The hearts of people are the problem. People who act out their hatred and disdain for human life are the ones responsible. We will never stop this kind of thing from happening if we do not deal with the root causes. God has made it clear in the person of Jesus Christ when Jesus said, "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks." We might add out of the heart, a person acts. The heart of people is the issue.
