Which way to go? Matthew 7: 13-14 from Heartlight
Cheryl Owens
(Jesus said) "Enter through the narow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

Heartlights Thought: Over two decades ago, Juan Carlos Ortiz criticized European and American evangelists for offering a carrot stick gospel that focused on the pay off and not lordship of Jesus. Jesus, especially in Matthew 7, reminds us that grace does not dismiss discipleship and mercy does not release us from our need to genuinely repent. We must accept the grace that is given us and truly let Jesus be Lord of our lives. It's not an either-or proposition, but a both-and call from God to receive grace and to follow Jesus as Lord.

Thought: So I guess the questions are, What do we stand for and just what are we willing to do for what we stand for? Most if not all of us at times think we can toss aside our duty/responsibility to God to do others things that interest us. We pass up going to worship for something we deem to be more important or fun, deluding ourselves saying it's ok God understands that I can't (really meant won't) be here today, I have something else planned. That something else is the wide gate, don't fool yourself into thinking that gate will get you where you want to go. Also think about this, what example are you setting for others. Are your actions causing a stumbling block to others? Don't think your going to get the payoff with doing the work, it ain't gonna happen!
