Using God by Norm Russell
Cheryl Owens
Early in my ministry I heard some things that greatly disturbed me from individuals, some of which did not go to church and some who did. One lady stated "God wants me to be happy." This was while she was leaving her husband and children for another man. God does want us to be happy, but not at someone else's expense nor if it is in violation of His revealed truth.

Now politicians are using God to sanction their political agenda. A governor recently said, "Jesus said man cannot live by bread alone." Jesus did say that, unfortunately the governor failed to finish the quote which says, "but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." I guess that part didn't fit his particular desire, so he ignored it.

Recently, the president said, "Jesus said 'to whom much is given much shall be required."' This was said in reference to the responsibility one has in using the blessings God has entrusted to him, not to give credence to raising taxes.

I marvel at the fact some people seem to have no reservation to call upon God to sanction their own pursuits, but want nothing to do with Him when it come to changing their life style. God will not be treated that way. He is not a God to be used, but a God who is to be loved and obeyed.
