"Charles Colson, Watergate felon, dies at 80." That was the headline in Sunday's Resister-Guard. (4-22-12) The writer then began his story of Colson's participation in the Watergate scandal that eventually brought down a sitting president. He then relates information on Colson's turn toward God establishing various ministries for inmates. No matter who you are, people tend to not forget what you have done. Colson could never seperate himself from the scandal he was involved in. Even though he offered help and hope to hundreds, no one focuses much time on that part of his life. It is extremely important for us to be careful with how we live our lives. It takes years to build a reputation and only one incident to tear it to shreds. I am thankful that God forgives. My fellow man may forgive but the memory remains. Thus, many are forced to relive their sins time and again. God does not do that. He said, "I will remember their sins no more.: Hebrews 8:12. And Micah said of God, "You will tread our sins underfoot and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea." Micah 7:19. Aren't you glad God forgives as well as forgets your sins even if one else will? |
