I am not interested in weighing in on the controversy surrounding the Hillary Rosen/Ann Romney affair. I know nothing about either of the two women and to comment beyond the subject at hand would be presumptous. However, I want to commend those mothers who are able to stay at home and provide a positive environment for their children to return to following their time at school. This is not only time well spent for a parent, but it is also one of the most rewarding endeavors. Stay-at-home moms fulfill a tremendous need in the lives of their children that no one else could fill. I commend them and I admire them for making such sacrifices for their kids. Having said that, I know not every mom can be a stay-at-home mom. We are living in difficult economic times and there are those situations when it becomes necessary for both mom and dad to work. Sometimes they receive unfair criticism such as "they work so they can buy more stuff." That may be true in some situations, but we must be careful not to paint everyone with the same brush. Many working moms are making valuable contributions to the functioning of family needs. Let us encourage and support them. |
