It is that time of year when garage sales will soon be gracing our landscape. Signs will cover utility poles, corners of streets will have so many announcements stuck in the ground you will have to pull over to read them all. What is an interest to me when I go to a yard sale is to see all that is laid out. You find stuff still in their original box, items that appear to have been slightly used, and of all things, you find trophies. Why would someone sell a trophy? Those little statues and engravings are reminders of one's accomplishments. They had competed and beat the competition. That is something to be real proud of. However, there they are waiting for someone to take them for mere pennies. When the apostle Paul was about to be executed for his faith, he wrote to a young preacher saying that God had a crown waiting for him. It was a victors wreath placed on the head of the winner who competed in the games. Paul's crown signified faithfulness, determination, hope and trust. Do you think he would sell it for any price? |
