Serving as an elder - Titus 1: 5-9
Cheryl Owens
For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that were wanting, and appoint elders in every city, as I gave thee charge;
if any man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having children that believe, who are not accused of riot or unruly.
For the bishop must be blameless, as God's steward; not self-willed, not soon angry, no brawler, no stiker, not greedy of filthy lucre;
but given to hospitality, a lover of good, soberminded, just, holy, self-controlled
holding to the faithful word which is according to the teaching, that he may be able to exhort in the sound doctrine, and to convict the gainsayers.

Thought: Being an elder at a church carries with it a huge responsibility. It's like being a shepherd, guiding the flock and keeping it safe from harm. They watch over the congreation, keep us on the right path, God's path. Being responsible for others carries with it serious responsibilities and that is why God has such restrictions the characteristics of what is needed in such a man. It is a very serious undertaking and may God Bless all you men who undertake it.
