Minute Message 10-15-11 Great Leadership
Cheryl Owens
Jesus had twelve disciples that He spent nearly three years training, teaching and leading. On one occasion the mother of James and John requested that Jesus give her two sons the seats of honor in His Kingdom. The other ten heard this and became indignant. Jesus responded by saying "whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave."

What does it take to be a great leader? According to Jesus it is being a servant. Mike Armour wrote in his Leader Perfect Newsletter of October 1, 2011 "One reason servant leadership is so rare, is that it requires a level of humility that is not easily achieved."

We live in a world that is focused on "who is in charge?" and "who is the boss?" But Jesus showed that kind of leadership is dysfunctional. People will gravitate to those who are "servants" and run from "bosses."

The principle of servant leadership works in the home, business, government and in every other aspect of life. How are your leadership principles working? Try being a servant, it works.
