Minute Message 10-8-11 God and Children

A friend once said that her parents robbed her of her childhood. Vacations were virtually a working vacation and emphasis on school work was so demanding she became resistant to her parents demands. When she had children of her own, the parenting skills practiced by her parents were being imitated. Surprise?

We may not realize it , but how we grew up becomes the model that we follow when we have children. This is not true in every case, but it is repeated enough times that it can be almost a guarantee.

God had placed a tremendous responsibility on fathers to raise their children to know about Him. This responsibility was to be handed down to subsequent generations. When a generation does not step up and do their job, problems arise. It happened in Israel following Joshua's death. "After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up who neither knew the Lord nor what He had done for Israel. Then Israel did evil in the eyes of the Lord." Judges 2:10,11. Do your children know the Lord?
