For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perserverance; and to perserverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. Thoughts: In the verses prior to this it says, God has given us precious promises. In order to have that promise we must do our part. The qualities listed above start with our faith in God, an unwavering faith. That faith needs to grow and with that growth comes the rest of the virtues listed above. They do not come without a conscious effort on our part. There are times I know I have to work harder on some of these. Knowing what I need to improve upon is the first step to achieving it. Praying for help is the second step. Each step get easier if we keep our eye on the goal. |
