Make Overs
Cheryl Owens
One of my favorite television stations is HGTV. This is the channel entirely devoted to home buyers, decorative ideas, remodeling suggestions and a lot more. One program I enjoy is called "Property Brothers." This is where two men (brothers) who have teamed up to help couples and families find their dream home. One is a real estate agent and the other a contractor. A couple in search of their dream home contacts them and the experience begins to unfold. First the couple is shown their dream home. However there is a catch. The price of the house far exceeds their budget. Then the fun begins, at least for the brothers.

The couple is shown a couple of houses that are virtually uninhabitable. They are devastated when they see the houses. Then, by use of modern technology, the contractor shows them what he can do with the house. Rest assured a major make over is in the works. The couple, following the remodeling project, then are shown what was done, and everyone is happy.

Don't you wish you could do that with your life? You have a mess you created through addictions, self-abuse, wild living, and careless conduct. You want your life to be different. You would like a make over where all of the mess is gone and a new you is standing in the place where the old you stood.

God is in the business of making people new again. Be sure, it does not happen overnight like HGTV suggests. The make over begins when we get rid of those things that are extremely destructive. In Colossians 3, Paul writes, "Put to death therefore whatever belongs to your earthly nature, sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry." Colossians 3:5-9. This is not going to be instantaneous. But, as the Spirit of God works in you, things begin to happen. Attitudes change, desires change, habits change and etc.

The apostle then goes on to say, a new self emerges that is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its creator. Therefore as God's chosen people holy and dearly loved clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience...Colossians 3:10-14

Just like in Property Brothers, the outside is still the same, but inside there is a whole new house, so too, you may have the same external appearance, but inside there is a whole new individual who is nothing like the old.

I suggest to each of you, let God's Spirit work in you and the transformation will be something you never thought could ever happen. God, day by day is shaping you into the image of His Son. You can't get ant better than that.
