Someone wrote, “We have to keep pursuing what we love so we can have more of it in our life. That is the key to personal happiness.” What this tells us is that happiness, an extremely illusive commodity, can be achieved if we keep trying harder, working harder, and pursuing harder. But is that true? Look around you and what do you see? The evidence is in abundance. True happiness is not found in pursuits, but in surrender. Paul had this to say, “I have learned to be content in whatever circumstance I am in. I know how to get along with humble means, and I know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.” It is through surrendering to God all that Paul had and all that he was, he was able to find the happiness that seems to elude us. That does not mean you give everything away and accept status quo, it means that you recognize that all you have belongs to God and every circumstance is under His direction. If you are seeking happiness, try surrendering. Come see us Sunday. -Norm Russell |
